iPhonebook™ is launched on QUALCOMM's BREW® Platform
Wireless Service Puts Information Where
Users Need It - On The Mobile Phone
San Jose, California -- March 3, 2003
-- Xpherix Corporation, the leader in personalized mobile
connectivity, today announced iPhonebook™ based on QUALCOMM's
Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless™ (BREW™)
platform.
iPhonebook offers one-device wireless
access to all personal address book contact information including
phone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses and the notes field,
eliminating the need to carry electronic organizers, laptops
or bulky address books. iPhonebook keeps this information
up to date, ensuring connectivity in real-time.
The BREW platform is a thin applications
environment for wireless devices. It provides application
developers with an open, standard platform upon which to develop
their products. Because the BREW platform is a standardized
environment, it greatly simplifies the task of integrating
applications onto wireless devices - from inexpensive, mass-market
phones through high-end, multi-purpose wireless devices.
"Numerous analyst studies show that
users' number one desired application for their mobile phone
is one that makes it easier to make calls," said Nick
Walker, Xpherix president and CEO. "QUALCOMM's BREW platform
has made it possible to offer unique applications such as
iPhonebook that make mobile phones truly convenient and productive
tools."
"It is an exciting testament to
the capabilities of the BREW platform that iPhonebook can
deliver this kind of productive functionality to users,"
said Gina Lombardi, senior vice president of marketing and
product management, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The
wireless carriers are also winners, in that iPhonebook offers
them both data and voice revenue opportunities."
iPhonebook synchronizes with a user's
existing address book - such as Microsoft Outlook® or
Palm Desktop® - and makes that information available through
the mobile phone. Users can launch iPhonebook on their mobile
phone, search for a contact, view all the information they
have on that contact and choose which number to dial - all
within seconds. By providing anytime, anywhere access, iPhonebook
helps users become more productive in their personal and professional
lives.
Note to editors: CTIA has selected iPhonebook
for inclusion in the Wireless Widgets Showcase which will
take place March 18, in booth 4514, Hall E, at CTIA 2003 in
New Orleans. iPhonebook may also be seen in the Qualcomm Partner
Pavilion, booth 5331 and at Xpherix's booth 4013.
